Famenne is located in a limestone zone (La Calestienne) sculpted by two major rivers, the Lesse and the Lomme, which have created impressive features such as the Caves of Han-sur-Lesse, the Caves of Hotton and the Lorette Cave in Rochefort.
These abundant natural resources meant that our ancestors could use local stone, marble and slates to build our castle. An application has been submitted for prestigious Unesco recognition, and we await the decision eagerly.
